How the quiz works

  • It uses the 2027 threshold: employees earning under €84,150 a year from 1 January 2027 (€77,400 in 2026) must be in public health insurance. The 2027 figure was approved by the federal cabinet and still needs Bundesrat approval, expected in November 2026.
  • Self-employed people, freelancers and civil servants can choose private health insurance at any income.
  • The result is general guidance, not advice or a quote. Private premiums depend on your age, health and tariff.
